<p>We&#8217;ve all heard the terms &#8220;gifted&#8221; and &#8220;learning disabled&#8221; before, but most of us have little idea what these labels truly mean. While it is often believed that children with learning disabilities are always mentally &#8220;slow,&#8221; many such children are both intellectually gifted and have a learning disability, which presents an unique set of problems to the educator. While understanding and efficiently processing information is more difficult for persons with learning disabilities, the greater problem in such a case is reconciling within oneself the experience of possessing both high intelligence and a learning disability. These children may need a specialized tutor so they can have one-on-one teaching that attempts to identify methods of teaching tailored specifically to their unique style of learning.</p>
<p>Intellectual giftedness is exceptional in its own right&#8211;this is what many experts fail to realize. Social deprivation and poor classroom performance are just a couple of the problems that are experienced by both gifted children and those with mental retardation. Also, similar problems can be caused by a learning disability. There are particularly tricky challenges if a child is learning disabled but otherwise gifted. </p>
<p>Children who are both gifted and learning disabled often suffer in the classroom. Their high intelligence may go unrecognized for years as their learning disability leads to difficulty in completing classroom tasks and a lack of motivation. They may demonstrate creative intelligence in non-classroom areas, however, such as art or music. Alternatively, a student may be recognized as gifted, but suffer due to an undiagnosed learning disability.</p>
<p>Parents must become knowledgeable about the signs of various learning disabilities and of being gifted. There may be a huge gap between test results (measuring academic potential) and actual academic performance for a gifted child with a learning disability. It&#8217;s also possible for such children to display impressive creative intelligence, that manifests itself only at home and not in the grades they receive at school. Behavior problems, or &#8220;acting out,&#8221; is not uncommon among children with learning disabilities, especially when frustration builds. If your child is displaying these characteristic features, you may wish to have your child evaluated for the presence of a learning disability.</p>
<p>Learning disability tests can be administered by school officials with ease. Inevitably, smart children with learning disabilities fall through the cracks in public schools; there isn&#8217;t enough attention to help everyone. If a parent or the child himself feels that they need to be tested for a learning disability, the parent must become the child&#8217;s advocate. Any student has the right to take a learning disability test; this right to test for suspected learning disabilities is protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act. First talk with your child&#8217;s teacher and if you find that you are not getting anywhere, it is essential to go to the school&#8217;s officials. </p>
<p>A number of options exist for children that are diagnosed as gifted and learning disabled. A gifted child might need extra resources; a really gifted child may need to skip a grade or more. Opportunities for cultural field trips and art classes, to aid in experiential (not just instructional) learning, should be regularly offered. Alternative information presentation, special classes, or technological aids each help with some learning disabilities. </p>
<p>Studies have concluded that the optimum environment for children who are gifted and have a learning disability is one that accepts differences and provides help with the learning disability; further, it is still extremely important that they be challenged regularly. A tutor who can work one-on-one can use this learning environment to attain more successful results. In addition, these children should be offered every chance to put forth their own preferences and desires. Their intelligence will help considerably; they can understand the implications of their learning disability and thus better cope with it. Children who are gifted and learning disabled, with the correct interventions in place, have a fantastic chance of becoming successful adults. After it is determined what the diagnosis is, the parents and child can then begin to learn how best to cope with it. The child needs not only support for the learning disability, but an environment that gives him or her challenges and stimulation. </p>
<p>Children who are gifted and learning disabled have an excellent chance to become successful adults. Once the learning disability is diagnosed, coping strategies can be integrated into the child&#8217;s life. It is important to provide the child with a stimulating, intellectually challenging environment that includes support for the learning disability.

<p>Employee evaluationAn organization needs constantly to take stock of its workforce and to assess its performance in existing jobs for three reasons:• To improve organizational performance via improving the performance of individual contributors (should be an automatic process in the case of good managers, but (about annually) two key questions should be posed: o what has been done to improve the performance of a person last year? o and what can be done to improve his or her performance in the year to come?). • To identify potential, i.e. to recognize existing talent and to use that to fill vacancies higher in the organization or to transfer individuals into jobs where better use can be made of their abilities or developing skills. • To provide an equitable method of linking payment to performance where there are no numerical criteria (often this salary performance review takes place about three months later and is kept quite separate from 1. and 2. but is based on the same assessment). Securing the involvement and cooperation of appraisers and those to be appraised. • Assistance in the setting of objective standards of evaluation / assessment, for example: o Defining targets for achievement; o Explaining how to quantify and agree objectives; o Introducing self-assessment; o Eliminating complexity and duplication. • Publicizing the purposes of the exercise and explaining to staff how the system will be used. • Organizing and establishing the necessary training of managers and supervisors who will carry out the actual evaluations/ appraisals. Not only training in principles and procedures but also in the human relations skills necessary. (Lack of confidence in their own ability to handle situations of poor performance is the main weakness of assessors.) • Monitoring the scheme &#8211; ensuring it does not fall into disuse, following up on training/job exchange etc. recommendations, reminding managers of their responsibilities. Full-scale periodic reviews should be a standard feature of schemes since resistance to evaluation / appraisal schemes is common and the temptation to water down or render schemes ineffectual is ever present (managers resent the time taken if nothing else).Basically an evaluation / appraisal scheme is a formalization of what is done in a more casual manner anyway (e.g. if there is a vacancy, discussion about internal moves and internal attempts to put square pegs into &#8216;squarer holes&#8217; are both the results of casual evaluation). <p>Programmed learning is a method of self-instruction consisting of frames (a series of short steps) and responses. It uses instructional materials where one words at one&#8217;s own rate, makes active responses to a step-by-step program, and gets immediate knowledge of results. The self-instructional materials can be presented by mechanical devices, called teaching machines, which come in varied forms.</p>
<p>Learning to Learn</p>
<p>Past experiences with similar problems clearly increase the likelihood that certain relationships will be seen and will be applied to solutions. Researchers conducted on monkeys (Harlow 1949) demonstrated the occurrence of learning sets. In certain circumstances, monkeys appear to catch on to principles involved in a series of learning tasks.</p>
<p>Multi-purpose Learning</p>
<p>Multi-purpose learning are acquired pattern or sequence of movements. It involves more than one identifiable act, with the order of events usually fixed by the demands of the situation. In complex skill, whether verbal or motor, patterns or responses are acquired gradually and become organized. A sensor motor skill, like driving a car or riding a bicycle, involves muscular movement but in the order of sensory control. Separate responses, such as watching the traffic and other vehicles in the road, are connected into sequence and patter. Practicing the skill each day (distributed practice) is generally more effective than consecutive practice within one period (massed practice).</p>
<p>Associative Learning (Habit Formation)</p>
<p>Associative learning is a behavior learned through habit formation or by associating S (stimulus) and R (response). This is illustrated in experimenting on classical conditioning, operant conditioning and multiple-response learning.</p>

<p>More experiments are still being conducted on learning processes. Mathematical models are now used to provide detailed information on learning problems and facts. An example of this mathematical model is the Hull-Spence Theory. The Hull-Spence Theory, formulated by Clark L. Hull and Kenneth W. Spence, recognized two sets of components in any learned performance:</p>
<p>1. habit strength (sHr)2. the result of associative learning under reinforcement3. non-associative components, of which drive (D) is the most important.</p>
<p>This expresses the law of habit formation which states that, other things being equal, habit strength increases regularly with reinforcement to a maximum of strength. </p>
<p>How do Mechanism Contribute to Satisfactory Adjustment</p>
<p>If defense mechanism were successful, they would persist. They can provide a protective armor while learning more mature and realistic ways of solving problems. When defenses are no longer needed, their importance fades and problems are increasingly confronted according to the demands of the total situation. </p>
<p>However, defense mechanism can also fail to provide satisfactory adjustment. The person can depend on defense mechanisms for protection but may never be forced to learn more mature ways of behaving. The roles adopted through the mechanisms may remain unrealistic, leading to withdrawal from social contacts rather than to improve relationships with people. Rationalizations may take the form of useless rituals or wasteful compulsion instead of creative effort. Even when such behaviors are socially useful, it will not completely satisfy the individual as long as it has its roots in irrational purposes. Tension reduction is incomplete because the incentives are inappropriate to the drive. Actions based on such defense mechanism never reach their goals. The drive continues, and the resulting behavior, irrationally driven, is not fully tension reducing. </p>

Indian firms like Infosys, Wipro, TCS, and Satyam serve customers around the world by developing software cods and supporting their IT systems. Tata Steel and Mittal Steel have acquired steel plants around the world through competitive bidding and have gained a place among global manufacturers. Companies like GE, American express, dell, and Google have located back office support operations in India and other countries from where they provide service to global customers. Toyota produces Camrys in Georgetown, Kentucky, Dell produces computers in China. In turn, globalized markets and production mean that globalized ownership makes more sense. Companies expand abroad for several reasons. Sales expansion is one. Thus, Google recently expanded its China presence by initiating its Google China instant messaging service there. Wal-Mart is opening stores in South America. Dell, knowing that China will soon be the world&#8217;s second highest market for PCs, is aggressively building plants and selling there.Firms also go abroad for other reasons.
